Frequently Asked Questions
- How long has DCC been around?
- DCC was founded in Winter Quarter of 2011.
- How many people are in DCC?
- The ensemble typically consists of 20-30 singers.
- How much does DCC rehearse?
- The choir meets for 2 hours, twice per week (i.e. 4 hours total per week).
- How often does DCC perform?
- DCC organizes and performs its own concert 3 times per year, toward the end of each UC Davis academic quarter (Fall, Winter, and Spring). In addition, the choir performs at several a cappella showcases throughout the year, as well as other miscellaneous performances (Fall Convocation, The BUZZ, Involvement Fair, etc.)
- Do I need to be a UC Davis undergraduate to be a member of DCC?
- No, DCC is open to graduate students, students from other colleges and schools, and the community at large. However, the vast majority of members are UC Davis students.
- Will I receive course credit for participating in DCC?
- No. DCC operates as a club at UC Davis and is not officially affiliated with the UCD Music Department.
- Who directs DCC?
- DCC is a student-run vocal group, which means that it is operated by the members of the group collectively. That said, the bulk of the work in keeping the choir operating is done by a board of officers that is democratically elected by DCC's members, and which includes a Musical Director and an Administrative Director (both of whom are UC Davis students).
- What kind of music does DCC perform?
- DCC sings a wide variety of repertoire. Most of that repertoire is "classical" a cappella choral music from the Middle Ages to the Present. DCC has even commissioned brand new pieces to be composed for and premiered by the group. DCC also occasionally ventures into genres such as pop and jazz, and sometimes collaborates with instrumentalists.
- Do members of DCC socialize with each other outside of rehearsal?
- Absolutely. Our members go hiking at Lake Berryessa, attend concerts, exercise, dine, and throw parties together, to name just a few activities.
- Do I need choral or other musical experience to join DCC?
- Not necessarily! No matter what your experience, we would love for you to come out and audition.
- What will my audition consist of?
